Montessori teacher training at Esclaibes International Schools

When choosing a school, parents almost always ask the same question: "Who are the teachers and how are they trained?" A legitimate question, given that a child's early years depend on the quality of the educational support they receive. At Esclaibes International Schools, Montessori teacher training is just a starting point: above all, we are looking for educators who are driven by a genuine educational philosophy, nurtured by a rich and diversified ongoing training.

We don't just recruit on the basis of qualifications: above all, we choose passionate personalities who are deeply committed to their mission with children. Some teachers come from the French state education system, others are English-speaking and have worked in their home countries. But they all have one thing in common: they are trained in Montessori pedagogy by our partner organization Apprendre Montessori, and then continue to enrich their practices through further training.

Because at Esclaibes, training doesn't stop with the presentation of Montessori materials: it goes hand in hand with an openness to other active pedagogies, nourished by creativity, benevolence and attentive observation of each child.

Montessori teacher training: the foundation of the Esclaibes approach

In all our schools, Montessori teacher training begins with a common foundation: training provided by Apprendre Montessorithe benchmark organization in France. This path to becoming a Montessori educator enables them to acquire a perfect mastery of Montessori materials, designed to take each child from the concrete to the abstract, while fostering his or her autonomy.

Our teachers (and nursery staff, for that matter) follow the Montessori 0-3 and 3-6 training modules for pre-school and kindergarten, and the Montessori 6-12 training for elementary school. One of the advantages of using Montessori pedagogy as a common base is that the material is the same, whether the child is in his or her French or English-speaking environment.

But Montessori pedagogy is not just about materials: it also implies a specific posture on the part of the educator.
Observing without judging, suggesting without imposing, encouraging without over-stimulating: these are all skills that our teachers develop from their initial training, and which are generally deeply ingrained in them.

This approach places the child at the center of learning. With the help of trained educators, children learn to choose their activities, manage their time and develop their self-confidence - skills that are essential to their future success, both at school and in life.

However, we do not limit our approach to dogmatic Montessori pedagogy. We look to other pedagogues for the additions we feel are essential to children's full development and learning excellence.

Ongoing training to evolve with children and the world

At Esclaibes International Schools, teacher training never stops. We are convinced that accompanying children in a constantly changing world requires teaching teams capable of adapting and learning on an ongoing basis.

In addition to the initial Montessori training, our teachers take part in additional training courses each year, such as :

  • the writing gesture, to effectively support learning to read and write;
  • ecology, to make children more aware of their environment;
  • Philosophy workshops for children, to develop critical thinking and language skills,
  • non-violent communication (NVC), led by Séverine Feiss of Les Petits Plus Zento establish peaceful, respectful relationships in the classroom, etc.

These training courses are enriched by an exchange of practices between teachers. They share their skills, tools and experience, creating a collaborative dynamic in the service of the child.

Finally, we draw on advances in neuroscience and daily observation of pupils to constantly adjust our teaching practices. Far from being a fixed method, Esclaibes' pedagogy is alive: it evolves with children, the world and educational discoveries.

An enriched Montessori pedagogy

While Montessori pedagogy is our foundation, we deliberately go beyond it to meet the real needs of today's children. At Esclaibes International Schools, we love the richness of Montessori materials: they encourage autonomy, concrete manipulation and progression from the simple to the abstract. We also appreciate the posture of the educator, both attentive observer and benevolent guide.

But we refuse to lock ourselves into a fixed vision. That's why we integrate complementary contributions that make our approach unique:

  • Creativity and art, inspired by certain Steiner pedagogical practices, to help children develop their aesthetic sense and imagination.
  • Fiction and literature from an early age, contrary to the traditional Montessori vision: we believe in the power of stories to nurture language, emotion and symbolic thought.
  • Le work plan inspired by Freinet, which encourages autonomy, responsibility and time management.
  • Cultural projects and educational outings, to link learning to reality and open children up to the world around them.
  • Emotional bonding and interaction, essential for language development and building self-confidence, supported by recent neuroscience research.

Enriching Montessori means offering children much more than a method: it means giving them a living educational framework, where knowledge, creativity and emotions move forward hand in hand.

Diverse profiles united by the same passion

At Esclaibes, there's no single path to becoming a teacher. Some members of our teams come from the French education system, but have chosen to join us to rediscover the pleasure of teaching in a different way. Others come from completely different backgrounds and have found in Montessori pedagogy a new vocation for working with children. We also welcome experienced English-speaking educators, who bring a wealth of cultural experience and native English skills.

More than qualifications, we recruit personalities who are passionate about education and ready to commit to our pedagogical vision. When a new teacher joins our team, he or she benefits from personalized support: initial training with Apprendre Montessori, classroom observation alongside experienced educators, exchanges of practices and additional training throughout the year.

This diversity of backgrounds creates a real "knowledge market" within our schools: each teacher shares his or her skills and experience for the benefit of the children. All are driven by a common conviction: to provide a caring and stimulating environment where every child can develop to the full.

Montessori training, the starting point for a global educational vision

At Esclaibes International Schools, Montessori teacher training is not an end in itself: it's the foundation on which we build a lively, open and deeply human education. Our teams, passionate about their work and in continuous training, draw on Maria Montessori's tools while enriching them with creative, cultural and relational practices that enable children to reach their full potential.

Because learning is more than just passing on knowledge, we train educators capable of accompanying each child in every dimension of his or her development.
