Wednesday Tutoring: bilingual tutoring for allophone children

In the bilingual schools of the Esclaibes International Schools network, children can benefit from tutoring in English and French on Wednesdays thanks to Wednesday Tutoring. This program is designed to reinforce the learning and mastery of French and English, while respecting the children's pace and needs.‍

A tutoring program in English and French

Like the Wednesday Workshops for kindergarten children, Wednesday Tutoring welcomes pupils aged 5 to 12. This tutoring in English and French takes place at our schools in Paris 15ᵉ, Clichy and Marseille.

The aim is twofold:

• enable children to spend pleasant, playful Wednesdays with friends;
  ‍
• continue their language immersion, in French for allophones and in English for francophones.

To organize these Wednesday Tutoring events, the schedule follows a clear program: 

• In the mornings, activities take place in French: ideal for allophone children who need to improve their listening and speaking skills.
  ‍
• In the afternoon, it's time for English: a precious opportunity to consolidate the basics and make progress in Shakespeare's language.
  ‍

Unlike traditional school days, Wednesday Tutoring favors a dynamic, interactive approach. Each teaching team ensures that children continue to learn without cognitive overload.

There's no question of putting them through an extra school day. And this tutoring in English and French is open to children not enrolled in the schools concerned. So it's not a question of continuing what's done in class on the other days of the week.

French tutoring for allophone children

Our international schools in the Paris region and in the city of Marseille welcome many students from abroad. French is not their mother tongue. To help them become bilingualthe French immersion morning is a real opportunity.

Through the projects and activities proposed, here are the benefits they derive:

In the afternoon, Wednesday Tutoring switches to English immersion. This is a key moment for :

• reinforce reading and writing in English for both English-speaking (you always have to learn in your mother tongue or majority language) and French-speaking children;
  ‍
• review in English concepts covered in French in the morning, thanks to a bilingual approach to learning.

Cycle 2 and 3 children benefit from Montessori materials and dual-language activities. This enables them to approach the same notion or theme from two different linguistic perspectives.

A child who learns a concept in French in the morning can revisit it in English in the afternoon. This consolidates the learning process in a natural way.
