Why choose a Montessori school?

Why choose a Montessori school?

Why choose a quality Montessori school - and I stress the word quality, because not all Montessori schools are the same - for your child? Enrolling your child in a Montessori school offers many benefits for his or her development, growth and future life.

1. Autonomy and initiative

The Montessori method places great emphasis on children's independence and initiative.

They are encouraged to :

  • making choices ;
  • work independently ;
  • pursue their individual interests.

They don't wait for the teacher's instructions to advance their learning. This creates something in them that will stay with them for the rest of their lives: being seekers of solutions and breakthroughs.

2. Developing psychosocial skills

Montessori schools offer multi-age environments where children interact with peers from different age groups. This fosters social development, empathy and mutual respect.

Younger employees learn from older ones, which helps them to develop. And older employees are given more responsibility, which boosts their self-confidence.

What's more, this multi-age environment is a great asset for teaching teams. They can design programs over the long term. And that's just as well, because education is a long-term affair.

It also means we have children in class to lean on when new pupils arrive. The integration of newly-arrived pupils is made easier.

3. Active learning

Rather than being passive, Montessorian children are engaged in active learning.

We find that children learn better and last longer when they :

  • they handle sensory material;
  • they explore concepts through experience;
  • they discover their environment for themselves.

It's this ability to be active that will stay with them for the rest of their lives. Being a player in their own learning and life.

4. Self-confidence

By being encouraged to explore and succeed independently, children enrolled in a Montessori school develop confidence in themselves and their abilities.

This prepares them to face challenges positively.

A material is always hard enough to challenge them, but not so hard as to set them up for failure.

All the successes they achieve on a daily basis, by following through on their materials, will considerably boost their self-confidence.

What's more, at our Esclaibes International School, we support the essential learning process of making mistakes. It's by making mistakes that we experiment and achieve results.

5. Respect for the individual

Montessori pedagogy recognizes that each child is unique and has different needs.

Montessori educators respect each child's individual rhythm and adapt their teaching accordingly. There are as many profiles as there are children. Respecting their rhythm means maximizing their potential.

Some children will be better at certain subjects than others. They will therefore need more or less time, depending on the subject.

In addition, respect for children, educators and premises creates an environment conducive to their full development.

6. Personalized learning

Children in Montessori schools are encouraged to follow their own interests and progress at their own pace. This leads to more personalized learning adapted to each child.

In the Esclaibes International Schools network, thanks to the personalized follow-up of our students, we create programs tailored to the needs of each child.

We can see their insatiable curiosity. And for this curiosity to remain throughout their lives, it has to be nourished, otherwise it closes up. That's why classroom materials need to be renewed regularly, to foster the joy and excitement of discovery.

Children should feel free to ask whatever questions they have, with the aim of increasing their knowledge of the world.

7. Creativity and critical thinking

Montessori activities encourage creativity, critical thinking and problem-solving. Children are encouraged to ask questions, explore solutions and think innovatively.

For example, in our Montessori-based schools, all our teams are also trained in our philosophy method for children. This enables them to address the big questions that children have, during group time. Specific philosophy workshops are also held, led by the co-founder of our international schools, philosopher Marie Robert.

Developing creativity means creating often. At Esclaibes International Schools, we have chosen to offer our children projects with outside contributors in art, music, musicals...

Choosing a Montessori school means offering your child an enriching environment. It means opting for a type of schooling that will foster their development, emphasizing autonomy, socialization, self-confidence, well-being and academic development.
